The Coronavirus Is Making America Pray Again

Searches for "Prayer" on Google Continues to Increase

The coronavirus is making America pray again.

Searches for the word “prayer” on Google continues to increase as COVID-19 continues its spread in the U.S. and around the world.

One study reported that in March, internet searches for prayer “surged to the highest level during the past five years” outside of religious holidays including Christmas and Easter.

A Pew Research Center survey shows 55 percent of Americans “have prayed for an end to the spread of coronavirus,” including 82 percent of evangelicals, 65 percent of mainline churchgoers and 68 percent of Catholics.

Churches across the nation are seeing increased viewership on their livestreams on Sunday mornings as people stay home and avoid crowds due to the virus.

With the increase in prayer searches on Google and the growth of online church streams, technology is for once, being used for moral and positive purposes.

Hopefully, this trend will continue long after the COVID-19 crisis is behind us.
