"Covidiots" Are Putting Their Health At Risk To Go Viral On Social Media For Their 15 Minutes of Fame During The Coronavirus Pandemic
Licking a Public Toilet Is Never A Good Idea
People are obsessed with fame, especially the young, that will do almost anything reckless and stupid you can imagine in hopes of going viral on social media. Now thanks to the coronavirus, some people are putting their health and the health of others in danger all for their 15 minutes of social media fame.
The Urban Dictionary calls this group of people “covidiots.” A covidiot is “someone who ignores the warnings regarding public health or safety” concerning COVID-19.
There’s the Instagram model that licked a toilet seat on a plane and posted the video on TikTok, a YouTuber licking New York subway poles and Oregonians calling 911 because of a toilet paper shortage.
These are just some examples of the less than intelligent behavior happening across the country. If you go to Twitter and search #covidiots, you’ll find plenty of other examples.
Why would someone be dumb enough to lick a toilet or a subway pole?
I’m sure that’s the question you’re probably asking yourself, and the answer is very simple. It’s all to gain attention and maybe additional followers on their social media accounts and to trend online.
The obsession with fame is nothing new, but what is new is the level of attention someone can receive by doing these stupid acts. They put in all this effort to create the videos and the majority of the time the viral video makes the producer little to no money on social media.
Please don’t be a covidiot for 15 minutes of viral social media fame. Your hospital bill from catching coronavirus would be way more than the pennies on the dollar YouTube would pay you for going viral.
